More summer attractions for Torrevieja

During the summer months, the ‘village’ of Torrevieja sees it’s population swell from around 100,000 residents to over 600,000, primarily because many ‘residents’ from Madrid and the North of Spain, make the journey south to enjoy their 2nd homes, our beaches and hospitality.

Over the years, the City Council have been adding more summer attractions for visitors and residents alike and 2009 is no exception. This year, the Summer Campaign goes by the name ‘You choose’. The ultimate objective is to provide more tourist information through a re-design of the City Map, new leaflets about the Salt Industry Interpretation Centre, addition of the sailing ship ‘Pacual Flores’ and ‘Magic’ Catamaran, free guided walking tours of the City of Torrevieja plus information officers from the Tourist department out and about on their ‘Segways’ handing out information and advice to those who wish it.

Walking Tours that visit the major sites around the city centre, take place every Tuesday and Thursday until September 15th and can be booked by phoning 666579949. They are designed for groups of 20 but individuals and family can call regarding availability. The main purpose of the tours is to promote the history of the city and to continue to publicize the relationship between Torrevieja, sea, salt and culture.

The Tourist department have also launched their new City Map, plus a pocket sized tour guide, which incorporate extensive tourist information about the city, including museums, interpretation centres, schedules, cultural programs, pharmacies, phone numbers, etc.. The guide seeks to establish itself as the perfect way for you to plan your days of sun and beach, providing tourists with a multitude of leisure options

This pocket guide to the city is also the basis for a new Tourism Lifestyle Website to be launched this summer on www.DiscoverTorrevieja.com and www.CostaBlancaTV.com, to provide visitors with more helpful information about the city before they even leave home.

Torrevieja’s Aromatic Park (Parque Aromático) has been inaugurated

Aromatic ParkSeveral aromatic species have been grown in this Park, such as thyme, rosemary, lemon blossom, basil, lavender, etc., apart from being ornamented with trees and gardens, walkways, leisure areas and children attractions.
The Torrevieja’s Major, Pedro Hernández Mateo, together with the Councillors for Parks and Gardens and Works and Services, Eduardo Gil Rebollo and Javier Montoro, have attended to the inauguration of the Aromatic Park located in the Torreblanca’s gully.

The Aromatic Park, located in the Torrevieja’s northern area, has a surface of over 70,000 square metres and has been built in the so called Torreblanca's gully.
This Aromatic Park has several modern design fountains, as well as many banks occupying up to 650 linear metres.
The park will be open from 9.00 a.m. until 12.00 a.m. during the summer.

First phase of the N332 opens

The N332 now boasts two lanes in each direction, with a 60 kmp speed limit, from Punta Prima, on the southernmost edge of Torrevieja to Pilar de la Horradada
N332Months of misery and frustration for drivers along the Orihuela Costa came to an end this weekend when, without any fanfare, the N332 suddenly became a dual carriage-way overnight, easing congestion and long lines of traffic that have been the bane of motorists for many years in the area.

Opening just in time for the summer influx of visitors, the N332 now boasts two lanes in each direction, with a 60 kmp speed limit, from Punta Prima, on the southernmost edge of Torrevieja to Pilar de la Horradada, offering excellent access to the Urbanizations, beaches and, to a point shopping!

Although there is another stretch of dual carriageway from La Mata heading north, the roads through Torrevieja are well behind, with very little evidence of anything being started through the major part of the city. As a result, on occasion, traffic can be a standstill from the Carefour exit to Punta Prima, for those travelling south!

Although many areas of the N332 from Torrevieja to Alicante still require work to even start, this first phase of development is a welcome sign to all. A word of warning must be given to pedestrians wishing to take short cuts across the N332, in that it is now a much faster travelled road, with fewer opportunities to cross, even though new walkways have been installed. Drivers should also watch out for the access roads into the shopping areas as they are easy to miss, in which case a complete 360 will be required to return to where you may have wished to exit.
